About Lola.
My journey began with one iPod, a free editing app, and one simple idea. I was 10 years old when I started getting into filmmaking and photography. I had my brother and cousins act, while I worked on pretty much everything else, it was one man team. This was the moment I discovered my love and passion for filmmaking.
For a while, I was making videos by myself. Growing up in a small school in Puerto Rico, we did not have a lot of clubs or programs. This did not stop me though, I continued creating my one-man shows all through middle school. Junior year I enrolled at A bigger school and joined the TV club. When I started as a TV1 student, people quickly became impressed with my work. In less than two weeks, I was offered to attend the STN National competition and the honor of competing with the higher level TV students.
In my short two years in the program, I managed to reach 15 national and 6 state awards. That year I also submitted my film to the AT&T SHAPE competition. The challenge was to create a short film shot entirely on a phone. Our film won for the bullying category, we got a trip to the Tribeca film festival and made an appearance in the Miami Herald and NBC 6 In the Mix. On the trip, we received on-hand training with several experienced filmmakers, journalists, and had a sit-down talk with HBO’s documentary vice presidents. Filming with a phone took me back to my roots. The tool that helped me discover my passion and has led to so much more. I want to keep learning about this beautiful form of art every day and pursue my life purpose’s with it.
